Ultra Petroleum's premier acreage position is located in the middle of the prolific Lance and Mesaverde tight-gas sand plays in southwest Wyoming.
The Jonah Field, the first major discovery developed in this area, is adjacent to the southern portion of Pinedale. The smaller of the two plays, Jonah is approximately 36 square miles and capable of producing an estimated 1.1 Bcfd. The current gas in place estimate is believed to be 15 Tcf. Of this amount, NSAI estimates approximately 10.5 Tcf (approximately 70 percent) of gas can be recovered over time.
The Pinedale Field is nearly three times larger than Jonah, spanning 90 square miles and is currently producing over 1.2 Bcfd. Today’s gas in place estimate is believed to be almost 60 Tcf. Of this amount, NSAI estimates nearly 39 Tcf (approximately 65 percent) of the gas can be recovered over time.
