Ultra Petroleum owns and operates the robust, long-life, tight-gas sand resource play in the Green River Basin of Wyoming.
Pinedale and Jonah Fields in southwest Wyoming’s Green River Basin are two of the largest natural gas fields in the United States. Ultra is in the production and development stage of this world-class legacy asset.
Ultra controls more than 117,000 gross (83,000 net) acres in and around the prolific Pinedale and Jonah Fields in southwest Wyoming’s Sublette County. The two field complexes produce from the Upper Cretaceous-aged Lance and Mesaverde Formations, and together cover an area 30 miles long by 6 miles wide. In 2018 they combined to produce an average of 756 MMCFE (net) of natural gas and condensate per day. Ultra operates 92% of its acreage position with an average working interest of 83.7%, owns an interest in over 3,000 producing wells in the field, and the vast majority of Ultra’s acreage is held by production. Ultra is the top natural gas producer in the State of Wyoming.
Production in Pinedale can support the Company in virtually any reasonable commodity price environment. Over the course of the more than two decades Ultra has operated in the Pinedale Field, the Company has produced more than 3.5 Tcf of gas and 26.5 million barrels of oil.
